TV Shows To Binge This Summer

TV shows to binge this summerHey everyone I hope you are doing well. I just finished writing a midterm, and wow does it feel good to be done. To celebrate I’m going to go home and watch TV. Doesn’t seem like much I suppose but I’ve been avoiding TV for a few days and only studying so to me it is a victory. I’ve obviously watched all of these shows already, since I wouldn’t be recommending it if I hadn’t. So here is a list of some of my favourites that I think would be great for binge watching this summer. Enjoy!

Orphan Black

I started watching this show when it first came out, and I have to say it is just as good or maybe even better on its final season now than it was in the beginning. The show focuses on Sarah Manning, played by Tatiana Maslany, as she discovers that she is a clone, and gets swept up in an abundance of insane conspiracies. The show also focuses on Alison a suburban soccer mom, played by Tatiana Maslany, And Cosima a PHD student, plagued by Tatiana Maslany. Maslany portrays all the main characters in this show brilliantly, and creates unique personas for each of them so that even though their faces are the same, their personalities are entirely different. It also takes place where I live so for me that’s a bonus. This show is really suspenseful and can get quite dark at times, so I would recommend it to those who are into the slightly darker side of science fiction.

Black Mirror

I am really new to watching this one, but it isn’t that long so despite being new I have already finished it in its entirety. Probably the darkest show on my list, it is also distinctive as not being a serial programme. By this I mean that each episode is a stand alone with no real relation to the others, so if you wanted you could watch the last season first and it would make no difference. To describe it I suppose it is a little bit like XFiles in that each episode explores really bizarre and sometimes downright horrific narratives. It is however slightly more grounded in reality. Each episode focuses on some sort of new or developing technology or fad, takes it about a decade down the line and then complicates it further by presenting its dark side. Each episode is brilliantly written, and beautifully executed by an amazing cast of different actors. My personal favourite episodes are San Junipero and White Bear. I am warning you though this show will mess with your head, but if you like that sort of thing then I would definitely recommend it.

Orange is the new black

One of the most successful Netflix original series to come out in the past few years, this show is just amazing. You may not think it from my current list but I love shows that are grounded in reality. It makes the characters all the more relatable. You may not think that would be likely in a show about prison inmates, but they really are relatable. The show follows Piper Chapman as she gets incarcerated and learns about the complex social and political inner workings of the prison system. However it isn’t just about Piper. She has is merely the way in which we are able to view the prison. The show cleverly uses each episode to delve into the backstory and personal lives of the other inmates and even guards. I have never seen a show this dedicated to setting up backstories for this many side and even sometimes background characters. I would highly suggest this show to anyone interested in more gritty real dramas.

Game of Thrones

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few years then you have definitely heard of this one. One of the most influential shows of the past decade this show revolutionized the use of TV sex and violence and without it some of the other shows on my list might not be here. The show focuses on the fictional area of Westeros, and the political machinations involved in the various attempts at taking the throne. Then throw in some nudity, gratuitous violence and dragons. That’s pretty much the show in a nutshell. I highly recommend it to those who are interested in fantasy stories, or even political dramas.

Thank you so much for reading! I really hope that you enjoyed and that you find something new to watch.

I won’t be posting anything next week because I will be traveling to Dublin on Holiday. When I do get back though I will have a good haul post for you guys.

Cheers and much love
